Dick, What did the old inserts look like when removed? any copper showing? Are all the rod caps with the correct rods? If you didn't notice the rods being loose when reinstalled, you might want to keep looking until you isolate it. It's usually harder to find a low oil pressure problem when nothing is knocking yet. If it's loud enough to knock, you should be able to find what's loose. Maybe use a dowl like a stethescope(sp?) and locate the source as high/low front/back in the motor. Other possibilities could be the small end of the rods (when you drop the rod cap, is the piston loose on the rod?); valve train/rocker troubles (usually a slower knock, 1/2 of engine rpm); timing gears can come loose on the crank or cam ... And then there's your real problem, which is always the last thing I come up with ;-) Good Luck, Stan(VA).
