the 806 is a great tractor. we've got 2 diesels that are still going strong. the one, which my grandfather bought new in '64, hasn't had any major engine work at all- never had the oil pan or the head off, has at least 5000 hrs. on it (but who knows, since the tach has been replaced at least once, and no one bothered to keep track of the total), and still runs as good as any other. the one major weakness in the 806 is the trans. linkage, which would wear after a few years, making egg-shaped holes, so you'd really have to slam the shifter around (mostly the range trans., i think), and just get worse and worse. we solved the problem probably back in the late 80's by replacing the linkage with the 856 style, which would look out of place if you're used to the original, but it works without all those problems. if you woould like further explanation, or just want to chat 806s, drop me an email. spudzooka@juno.com
