Texas Red - One more long shot possibility: If the tractor has a belt pulley gearbox, make sure it is out of gear (shift handle pulled back). My Super H belt pulley gearbox makes an odd low growl when the belt pulley is engaged and turning with no load. Good luck and post back what you find...
