First of all, a magneto has a coil built in so I am guessing that you are attempting to wire a coil to the distributor. So you need to furnish some information.
1. Battery ground + or - ?? If battery is + grounded, then the + terminal on the coil must attach to the points connection.
2. Are distributor points opening? Are they set to correct spacing??
3. Is a wire or connection inside the housing grounded accidentally?
4. Is the condensor ok?
