Carl, In addition to Red Dave's recommendations, make sure your impulse is working. The impulse should click or "snap" everytime a piston passes top dead center. If it doesn't, it will be almost impossible to start the tractor without pulling it with another vehicle. The tangs on the impulse are gravity operated. If they get gummed up or otherwise sticky, they will not engage. If sticky, clean them thoroughly and lightly lubricate. Another possible problem is that your rotor is out of time. The rotor is gear driven from the mag shaft at one half mag speed. It is possible to mistime the gears which causes the mag to fire when the rotor is between terminals, resulting in no spark. There are match marks on the gears to assist assembly. Good luck.
