Welllllll, when I was a kid we had our share in the henhouse. What a thrill to reach into a nest to gather eggs after dark, and come up with a handful of coarse fur instead of eggs! We had it down to a science - any two members of the family could do it. Egg gatherer would quick slam the nest door shut and get for the house. His job was to grab the flashlight, open the nest door, shine the light into the proper compartment and whistle. Other family member would be ready with the old .22, when the skunk looked up, it would catch a round right between the running lights! The death was so sudden the skunk would expire without making much of a stink about it. Usually changing the straw in the nest was all that was necessary! Oh, and yes, saw wife's uncle take a live trapped skunk out of his chicken coop, carry it out to the field and release it without any lasting effects. Seemed to me that was asking for repeat visits though!
