Paul, you want to bear in mind that on your A the temp sensor is in the delivery side or the bottom of the cooling system where the water better be cool and yes, you would have to run the daylites out of it to get the temp to come up. If your sensor was in the forward side of the cylinder head you would find the temp quite different there.
