I'm painting my Super H at the moment and need am deciding whether or not to paint the carb too. I know that the factory painted the carb, but I also know that I don't like the looks of a tractor with a good paint job but a carb with flakey paint because gas corroded the paint. I know that at some point gas is going to get on the carb and I don't want the carb to be the blemish to an otherwise great restoration. It seems to me that the carb as it is now has some type of a black or gray oxide finish (it smells odd) Could that be correct? If that is the case, the finish has held up pretty well thus far so I'm thinking that I will not paint the carb. What do you guys think? Also, is the carb made of cast or some other material. I know that some carbs were made of brass or something like that and was wondering if IH used other special materials to make carbs.
