I went through this recently. Square bolts will not hold either once you get them loose and they won't stay in the recess anymore. I used an open end wrench like the other guy said. Not easy though. I thought that a crows foot wrench for a socket drive set might work better, but got them off before I got around to going an buying a set. Ended up using a vise grip to hold the head and then using an air impact wrench. Don't think I would have gotten them off without the impact wrench.
