I knew that my "new" 300U with regular steering and a front-end loader was going to be hard to steer so I fabricated my own power steering. Most of the parts came from Northern Tools (CharLynn steering valve, hoses, fittings, etc), Burden Surplus (steering wheel, column and associated parts) and Groban Supply (two 8" stroke double acting rams)Finally, I bought tie rod ends from NAPA. I removed the original steering assembly including the drag link arms. I fabricated a new gas tank and steering valve support. I built brackets to hold the steering rams and attached them on both sides of the clutch housing. I tapped into the hydraulics at the spool valves(I used an additional pressure relief) and ran my return line thru a hydraulic filter and back to the return line to the stock IH pump. It works great but it is kind of ugly with all the hoses. I guess I just won't enter it in any shows! But at least my arms feel better after working all day with the loader. I understand that the original power steering units are very scarce and in great demand. I also enjoy fabricating things but this project wasn't cheap, parts ran about $400.

It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
