I've always used pea gravel instead of chain or bolts (no sparks), anyway local motorcycle shop should carry a product called Krem, acid clean and coating for inside of tank. if you don't have any leaks i recommend cleaning with chain or rocks. Once you coat inside of tank it's coated forever, also coating MAY come off inside of tank at a later date, if it don't leak don't coat it.
