The Farmall 400 was sure a powerhouse if she has compession, spark and fuel. From my years of experience working in a IH shop don't forget about the air cleaner. A tractor with a mounted corn picker is always a very dirty, dusty machine to be around and guess where the engine is trying to get it's air from? Make sure you look very close at the wire mesh that does the filtering of the air in that oil bath air cleaner. I have taken those units off the tractor and very carefully disassembled completely. You have to cut some spot welds that hold the mesh in the bottom. Then pull the mesh out and unroll the many feet of wire mesh. A pressure washer will then do a good job of cleaning all of the goop out of the mesh. You can then roll it back up on a piece of pipe and install back into the air cleaner housing. If you just take the pressure washer to the wire mesh when it's still in the housing all you will do is drive the junk deeper into the wire mesh. If you know somebody that has a dynometer you can do lots of testing in just a few minutes. While under load remove the pipe from the air cleaner to the carb. Checking the power like this sure makes it easy to see results very quickly. You would be running an engine without the air cleaner only for a few minutes. I sure that many of these old tractors have air cleaners that will not allow engines to breath properly, especially those that had mounted corn pickers on them many years ago. Good luck Charlie in MN

Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
