Your comments about using a pto drive are very valid. However, I intend to mount this winch over a heavy duty woods rear blade. The Woods cross member will preclude using a pto shaft. With the blade mount, I will in essence have a log skidder set-up and with the blade down, should be be able to pull just about anything. Also, I use this same Woods for snow and a winch would come in handy. The hydraulic drive seems to be the more logical solution for this arrangement.
