400D has a 264 motor like the SMD and SMTAD. Check for water and dsl in engine oil, and dsl in the oil of the inj pump like stated below. I purchased a 450D a while back that started up on gas fine and ran on dsl perfectly, no blue or white smoke what so ever. The tractor is now being restored . The engine was found to have 2 cracked sleeves, a cracked block, the head had 10 cracks and the rod and main bearings were wore so bad it wasn't even funny. Its at a machine shop right now, and after the block is repaired, crank is ground, and is totally rebuilt, I'll probably be lucky if i'm able to walk away with less than $3000 in the motor itself.
