I think it just isn't getting warm. I was running it last night, and after a while it started running fine. Then I noticed that the temp gage was getting near hot, so I shut it down. After refilling the antifreeze, it went back to running crappy, and it never warmed up. I didn't have any such problems this summer.

I don't have my manual handy - is there a thermostat in there somewhere? If so, where can I get one?
