Jimbo, I did two carbs last year one for a '58 cub and one off a '55 400. The 400 carb was really bad, varnish on the inside and a caked on hard shell of grease and dirt on the outside. I used a gallon of Chem-dip available at my local Autozone. It worked great! I cleaned as much of the grime off the outside as possible, disassembled and allowed parts to soak overnight. Put them back together with a new rebuild kit. Both carbs came out looking and working like new. I'd stay away from sandblasting, especially when the Chem-dip was so easy. Skeeter
