Tip #1 DO NOT FIX ANYTHING ON THE TRACTOR - this is where you lose money. Tip #2 only buy when really cheap Tip #3 sell them somewhere where they are not common, for example: standard tread tractor in the south where they only grew row crops. Tip #4 if you must keep a tractor and work on it, keep it for at least 20 years, guaranteed to appreciate in value. I know everyone is screaming ethics right now, but I do not rip people off. I buy at auction sale so it has to be fair. Also I pay fair market price for the area. Around here old tractors are just in the way for most people - makes them fairly cheap. Haven't lost money yet, but haven't done much better than break even either. Steven PS take with grain of salt, not all true (except for the fact that I haven't really made any money yet)

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
