350 hanging in gear!

I have a real nice 350 Farmall gas out plowing the other night and got in hard pull the tractor would not come out of gear to shift you could shut it off and still would not come out of gear
This happened several time Later the next day I was told to pull torque back the tractor would then let me shift Is the torque out or just needs adjusted or do I have a serious problem? Thanks
