Paul, If that was all of the serial number on the plate, the M would be a 1939. The X6 suffix indicates it has low speed gears. Best to look at some of the major castings and find a foundry date which appear like 8*15*I (The * will appear as a screw head). This example would mean that part was cast on Aug 15, 1939. The last digit is the year so J would be 1940, K-1941 etc. V was not used.
