Ron - I have 180 deg thermostats in both tractors. They warm up quickly to 180 without winter fronts over the grilles even under light load and cold ambients as is the case with tree farm work. But I've found using winter fronts stops the otherwise cold blast of air from the fan back over the engine. This effectively controls carb icing in damp weather. Also it causes the oil temperatures to run much higher. I'd guess (by feeling the filter can) the oil runs about 120 - 130 deg - vs barely warm to the touch without the winter fronts. This in turn noticably reduces crankcase condensation and sludge buildup inside the motor - a good thing! Incidentally the drivers prefer the Farmalls over the 2 cylinder tractors because they sit higher on the red tractors. From the H and M seats you can easily see to the back of the wagon without having to stand up - important because there's generally lots of kids aboard and you want to be able to see what's going on at the rear end before you move. The above shot is one of a JD A's pulling a wagon set - you can see the driver is perched a good foot lower than on the Super H.

We arrived hoping to meet up with a man we knew had over one
