No. Since you already have a nice rut started, you can put the poles in at an angle so the butt of the pole gets guided into the rut. Everything stays pretty stable until the rears clear the rut and then yes there is some danger of the tractor sliding off one pole or the other. In truth something dimensional like a railroad crosstie would be safer I think. The idea is a carryover from the days of steel wheeled tractors where there something more to stable to chain to than a pneumatic tire.
