I also had the same problem with my Super C, it drove me crazy trying to locate it with an ohm meter, never did find it. My C had a generator on it rather than an alternator like the others have had. The funny thing about it was that it was intermitent. I finally sold the C and never did find the source af the problem. The regulator theroy does sound interesting though.
