I have never been into an 86 series transmission or rearend but did replace a shaft in the 1256's transmission once. As far as the ta replacemant shaft goes that shouldn't be too difficult. Have you got splitting stands to handle the job? If you do and are mechanically inclined you will do ok. The park locks on those tractors clear on back to the 06 series were prone to that problem. I had a 1206 that had to be fixed, the guy that had it before me did the same thing to it, but I had the IH dealer fix it at the time.
