Yes, the'48 does have a generator and a I'm not really sure how that is able to work without a voltage regulator. I rewired my brother's H and replaced the voltage regulator and to see if everything was working correctly, I started the tractor with all the lights on and then disconnected the battery.The lights stayed on and the tractor ran fine.
