Stan, I believe what happened is they got the wrong ring set for those pistons. They made a number of changes on those rings and pistons. If you do the job over, make sure to get the right rings. Some of them had a double taper. WE had a fellow do one in the shop one year about this same time. Guess what? He put them them in the groove with taper opposite to the taper in the piston groove. You want to talk about smoke. I couldn't believe it even started. Good luck and Merry Christmas to all.
