The hole is there for a reason. It is to vent the cylinder. Is it squirting hydraulic fluid or water? If it's water, you just need to make sure to get the water out of it and find a way to keep it from filling up, if it's hydraulic fluid you probably have a bad seal in your cylinder which will eventually need attention. Have you noticed that the system settles on it's own? If it isn't settling, you can probably ignore it for awhile.
