The big plug with the hex on it is the retainer for the bearing outer race. The plug should clamp against the outer race of the ball bearing on the steering shaft and hold it tightly in the steering gear housing. If it does not, you will have to find some shim rings to put in there to make it clamp up. The nut on the end of the steering shaft holds the inner race of the bearing. If should clamp the inner race tightly against the shoulder on the shaft. The nut is a 3/4 inch fine thread castle nut. there is a hole in the shaft for a cotter pin to keep the nut from coming loose. I had to put a washer behind my castle nut to get things to work right, but the washer must not bind against the bearing balls or the outer race.
