thanks for the answers-still no luck. there is a good spark coming from the distributor end of the coil wire. there is a good connection from the coil wire to the distributor cap(which is new). the rotor is new also, but no spark from any of the plug wires. the wires i bought were from NAPA. i tried the old(copper) ones but still no spark. i cleaned the connection to the top of the rotor and the contact end of the rotor also. by the way, the rotor is definitely turning.i think that all there is between the distributor end of the coil wire and the spark plugs is: the cap, the rotor and the plug wires, as well as their connections. everything seems to be ok so i don't understand why there is no spark! any more help appreciated!
