1st gear is about like 4th in the Super , 7mph , 2nd 8-9 , 3rd 11 , 4th 13 , reverse is also a lot faster and pto runs about twice as fast . It's a set of gears that speeds up the countershaft only , so 5th is still direct . The kit came out in early 50's by M&W Gear co in Gibson City, IL .They made lots of stuff for Farmalls , we are about 90 miles north of there and there were a lots of M's with the 9 speed kit around here . I'd say more than half of the M's running here today have it . Mine has the 9 speed , M&W's live hyd , the M&W governor kit and at one time had M&W sleeves & pistons in it . Dad put all these in when it was fairly new . At that time we had the M , a 400Diesel , JD G and a JD 70 , and on 3-14 plow the old M would stick with them all and even pass the 400 , it was a DOG , sorry guys , that tractor made Dad start going GREEN . I still have the M and a H that he bought new though , will for a long time . JIM
