I believe the Nebraska tests have the 1086 and the 4440 about the same hp. The White equivalent was the 2-135. Some neighbors chop corn together, one with a 1086 and the other with a 4440. They chop about the same speed. (I heard the JD initially bragged he would outcut the 1086, but the IH can cut faster. The 1086 has tremendous torque rise, way above other tractors of its day. I don't think Deere people brag too much about the 4440--it was the pinnacle of JD's experiment with poor fuel economy.)
