350 hard to shift

I have a 350 that is very hard to shift out of first or second if you come to a stop during a hard pull. If I engage the TA it will sometimes come out easier but not every time. A friend has a 400 that does the same thing but is much harder to get out of gear than mine. Is this the nature of the tractor or are we looking at a potential problem with the forks or rails? Any help will be appreciated. Tom/Idaho
