I have an 1935 f-12 with just a generic muffler on it. There doesn't seem to be any change in the performance, nor is it doing any damage to the manifold. I've had it on the tractor for many years. The only damage a muffler would do is if the manifold was in poor condition with it rusting through it would help it along.
