Wes: I just went over to the photo gallery, viewed the picture of your 1970, 1456 and yes that is the cab exactly. My 1066 had the same cab as JD's 1466 that he has picture posted. Yes I agree 656 cab was noisier than the 1066 and you didn't have rops protection. However you could see the ground around you a whole lot better. I had the 656 equiped with 16.9 x 38 rear tires. I used the 656 for planting corn, drilling grain, on 9 foot mower conditioner, spraying, rotary hoe, etc. It went 9000 hours before needing engine redone. I will admit the only time the tractor had its engine worked to capacity was plowing. The plowing was with an IH semi-mount 5 x 16. I had orignally purchased this plow to use with 1066, however I put duals on 1066 to use on large tandem axel manure spreader. Since most of our manure spreading took place at the same time we wanted to plow, the 656 got the plow. I found this unit to be one of the most efficient tractors I've ever owned. It averaged 1 Cdn. gal of fuel for every hour on tach. My mower conditioner was a NH 460 with a shear bolt. When it was new it was used on 300 gas with quite sharp governors. The 300 always broke 2 or 3 shear bolts per day. After I started using on 560 and the 656 I cant remember ever breaking a shear bolt. Hugh

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
