I just went thru this with a I-6. It has the same eng as a M. I believe the best way is to remove the starter and with a bar on the flywheel ring gear bar it back and forth. Do this with the plugs out and you can really feel how much it is sruck and where in its rotation. You can give the flywheel a dot of spray paint when you open her up to give yourself a reference mark. I also marked the front crank pulley to see where I was at while turning it over. after it is some what free if it is still some what binding probally right about where your mark is you can then put it back there and let some more peneterating oil work for a while longer, if you want to take the added precaution.
