The spring you noticed is pressure relief valve spring. After cleaning the unit in solvent, check for loose teeth, if the idler gear or body is damaged replace both. It's possible the rattle is from the gear wobbling on the idler shaft, and should be replaced. Replace the gasket which is also a shim. CaseIH has an overhaul kit that includes the gears and idler shaft. You might have them do the overhaul while in the dealership, or a machine shop that has some experience on tractor engines.
