Yep they sure do and it also helps to break the engine in under load , the liners are hardend and it takes them some time to seat the combustion forces the rings out against the liners and you also need to build some heat so that the fuel is being burnt other wise unburnt fuel will wash the walls down and now you got problems . I like to break a fresh engine in under light load for a while to check for leaks and yes sometimes i even get one or two and also bring engine tepm up to at least 165 degrees much prefer 185 to 190 and after i get it upthere shut it down and retoqure the head and reset the valves then fire it up and load it to 1/2 to 2/3 rds of full load and let it run for a coupel hours and keep checking it. It is a real good idea to install a new thermostat just to make sure that it will build heat and hold it.
