I have had my Farmall A for about 8 years now. Bought it from a good friend who passed away a few years ago. Has always run great, used it for mowing and raking a few years until it began to start hard. Would always start when pulled or hooked to a 12 volt jumper source. Parked it in the barn 2 years ago just to get it out of the way. Figured let it sit and gain value. Then I discovered this wonderful site about antique tractors. I read tons of postings on all the discussion boards. Finally figured out where the points were on the magneto. So I take it apart and found that there was NOTHING left of the points!! Spent about $8 on points and condenser, installed and set to 0.013" gap and it fired right up on the second click!! This tractor has NEVER started so good since I bought it!! In the last couple of days I rebuilt the seat pivots and installed a nice straight pipe with a 90 degree bend on top to keep the rain out. I hooked it up to our 80 foot 8" auger today and unloaded some corn off the truck - what a sweet sound to hear that tractor pull! Gotta love those Farmalls! Moral of the story: When in doubt, CHECK POINTS!! Steven
