I have used a 6/12 volt charger on my 8 volt battery for years without any problems. The key is to only use a 12 volt trickle charge setting, not the full 15 amp setting. Never use the 12 volt 15 amp setting on an 8 volt battery. The 6 volt 15 amp setting will give you a good 8 volt trickle charge.
