I used an H for many years on the farm; there was plenty of power "if" you knew how to operate it.
5th gear is for road travel, you do not start out in 5th but get the tractor rolling in 4th and then idle down the throttle and shift to 5th. Some times the gears would grind a mite until they matched and slid into mesh. Besides, starting in 5th is very hard on the clutch.
