Andy-zonie's right. For the most part the high compression pistons were an option for high altitude sales. I've just started tearing down an M and it's got the same thing. The big difference, from what I gather, is when you get ready to order new parts. I think it's held, and "The Red" or "Big Fred" can probably tell you if it's true, that if the engine was originally eqiupped with them, then you have to rebuild it with those. As far as cleaning the head with water... I dunno. I wouldn't. I cleaned the head on my B with varsol, gas and a stiff brush before I ran it over to the machine shop. Just my 2 cents.....
