TerryC: Stan is an expert on the "C" series. He's right in doing some investigating befor tearing into it.. That is if you want to get the best bang per dollar WITHOUT just flat out going to a complete overhaul regardless of condition you find as you open it up. Sounds like oil pressure is somewhat reasonable. Sometimes just dropping the pan and reworking the oil pump(which has been known to warp) along with "plastic guage" on the mains and rods will tell ya more about holding better oil pressure when working it. I would be a bit leary about touching the pistons at all just yet. If it did NOT use oil, the oil control rings were doing their job. The compression rings may be another story after ya take the head off. I say that with your oil squirt test not bringing #2 -#3 back up, you need to take head off after checking valve clearance like Stan said. Reworking the head isn't too major. The machine shop can comment further on low compression of #2#3. Then you can decide on bottom end. Rework oil pump and check mains\rod bearings? Or go for a complete bottom end overhaul also. Sometimes a top job adds compression enough to cause weaker rings to pump some oil. It can be a decision as to how far to rebuild as one goes along. Some do not care about cost as they want the best and others do NOT care about ever spending any at all on an engine. All I am trying to say is that you may be able to decide "in stages" as you go. Cylinder Head first.. gather info and then later decide on bottom end work. OK? ralph
