You must have had something wrong in the timing and/or the placement of the plug wires. After all that explanation, I won't try to guess exactly what. The AV, Super AV etc. all had the square front axle. It also braces to the rear of the engine block. The high clearance axle was a similar design to the heavy duty axle of the industrials.
