I built my own 3 point for a small Allis tractor. Like you said 50% is knowing you did it yourself and 50% is the money. I bought two lift arms at farm stroe for $45 each. They are 32 inches long center to center and have 7/8 hole both ends. You get the swivel sockets that way. Upper arm is 3/4 inch hole. I bought a cylinder at a farm sale for $25. The upper arms, rocker, angle iron frame, pivots, etc i made all myself. The biggest problem is to get the geometry right so it will lift and have adequate power. Not a bad idea to look at a few, or see a few pictures on the internet to get a "start". It really is not a bad project if you can weld and have some machine shop access.
