normally they use the delco 10SI alternator. YOu should have a 1/4 inch nut with a big wire on the back of the alternator that goes to the positive terminal on the battery. There are two spade terminsla on the side in a straight line. the R or 1 terminal is probably the problem. It must be switched off or disconnected when the tractor is not running. When running it is connected to the batter positive post (thru a resistor ). Usually this wire runs thru the ignition switch, or a toggle switch. The other small terminal is the F or 2 terminal. YOu can connect it to the positive post on the back of the alternator (12 volt.) If you need a picture e-mail me. Good test is to pull the two prong plug off and see if the battery discharges overnight.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
