From experience and hearing the old farmers talk here are the problems:

Cracked head (didn't cool engine properly)
Cracked block (didn't drain water)
Steer rather difficult
Not handy around the yard (large turning radius)
And the biggest problem faced when rebuilding the engine is not the head (those are available yet) it is the main bearings, no one makes them. I cannot find them anywhere. Early WD9's used one size main bearing and the late WD9's had different ones. I think the Super WD9 you can still get bearings for as it is the same engine as the 600 and 650.
