Martin: Years ago there was a standard joke about buying a car. The basic car had a price. OK? Then if you wanted a steering wheel,it was extra cost. Tires..oh, that was extra cost. An engine was extra cost..get the idea? That was carried over to tractors as well. The C in 1948 replaced the B and BN. So to keep the advertized cost down it was made as a "basic" tractor. The B didn't have hydraulics so don't price the C with it either.. etc. So ya end up having some with extras and others NOT. As time when on, more and more extras were then included as Basic and always included in advertized price as "standard.". IHC also had made minor changes fairly often to tractors WITHOUT making a model change. The tourque tube on earlier C's wes lighter..etc. That changed and who cares.. Keep changing a few things now and then to improve the basic model. 50 years later it will take a dedicated person like Guy Fay to sort all this out and write some good referance books. How many really care that 1st gear in early C's was faster. They slowed it down for the SC. The distributer advance was sightly changed for the super (as I remember) but who cares for general work? Just look at major items. Disk brakes and 113-123 cubes? ALL of them are great..how's that 4 a summary(grin) Enjoy'em all.. ralph
