I have a 450 Farmall that I use on our small farm. It's also used for plowing with a back blade in the winter months. Yesterday, I started it up (it always starts first time), warmed it up a bit, lifted the blade (3pt hitch) and backed it out of the barn. I turned it around to begin to plow and when I lowered the blade, the engine went dead. Quick, no coughs, no sputters, nothing. Just immediately dead. I have fuel and air, but no spark. Upon an accidental examination while taking off the right side cowling, I noticed from underneath that several wires were frayed on the dash panel and when you lowered the hydraulic control they touched one of the wires. Thinking that I may have shorted out the system, today I fixed the frayed wires, replaced the coil and nothing. Any suggestions? Would the voltage regulator cause this problem? The engine cranks, and as I said, I have gas, air and no spark. Would appreciate help. Thanks.
