The usually recommended practice is to bolt a plate to the drawbar to hitch PTO equipment to the tractor. The swinging drawbar unless bolted so it can't move, is not considered good practice. There is a standard ASAE dimension for the relationship of hitch point and pto shaft. I think is around 14 in. I just remembered that I have my New Idea spreader manual here and it is indeed 14 in from the hitch pin to the end of the pto shaft. These adapter plates can either be made, find a used one, or one may be available new from somewhere
