I have a 1948 H that had the same problem. I took a garden hose and put a small piece of copper tubing on the end of it with a reducer and a clamp. Next, I removed the sediment bowl assembly from the tank and flushed the tank with water. I plugged the hole on the bottom and filled the tank several times and then flushed it until all the really loose stuff was gone. Then I put a copper extension in the top of the fuel strainer/sediment bowl. I only used a piece about 2" long. This allowed any remaining sediment to settle on the bottom of the tank. The 2" extension will not allow the gas or sediment to be used below it. I have not had any problems since I did this.
