A cutout is 1/2 a voltage regulator. It cuts out and regulates the voltage about 7 volts. If needs to be used with a head light switch resistor (built into the switch). The resistance changes as the switch is pulled out and changes the "F" terminal resistance to ground (frame). The generator will then charge a few extra amps when the lights are on. The cutout on the generator has two terminals. THe "A" on the generator goes to one terminal, and the other goes back to the battery. A regulator has two or three small coils inside and therefore 3 or 4 terminals on the outside to connect wires. It does not need the light switch resistor, that is inside the voltage regulator. You have two terminals that connect to the generator F and A terminals, and a third terminal B, that goes to the battery. COunt the termninals on the "box" to determine if it is regulator, or cutout.

Experimental Tractors Article - by Danny Bowes (Dsl). Tractor technology appears to have nearly hit it's pinnacle of development. If you agreed with the subtitle, you are rather mistaken.
